  • Blue background experiment

Oh what a lovely break we had. Plenty of walking, museums, food…the kind of stuff that makes you sorry to be back to everyday life. No matter, to avoid falling prey to the ‘back home’ blues, I decided to ‘make something.’
Perhaps it is summer approaching and the sudden appearance of sun and blue sky, but I felt inspired to go for deep blue. Blue phtalo is not a colour I use often—I tend to prefer baby blue hues—but somehow, today it beckoned. So did some scraps I had left over and a bit of burnt umber. The end result is this background—scraps collaged on watercolour paper, and painted with variously thinned layers of baby blue, sky blue and blue phtalo, all finished with some touches of burnt umber (partially wiped away with baby wipes).

    Summer blue background

I am reasonably happy with this, I think it will make a good base for a collage. Now the problem is—when do I find the time to turn the dozens of backgrounds I made over the last month into proper artwork?
