Call it the Laura Ingalls Wilder legacy, but I have a thing for prairie dresses. I think little girls just look adorable in them. Obviously I was looking forward to getting one for Caterina but it wasn’t easy. I just couldn’t find any on this side of the pond.
Thanks goodness for the Internet though. I searched and searched and finally stumbled upon Our Grandma’s Closet, a cottage shop of a kind. It is run by Lynda on behalf of her mom, a wonderful seamstress that gives all her profits to charity to help children in Uganda and Colombia. By buying a dress from her, I would not only manage to turn Caterina into a mini Laura, but also help children in need.
So of course, I bought two dresses (at a hugely affordable price, if it weren’t for the custom duties I had to pay to get the stuff into the UK). They recently arrived and are absolutely lovely. The fabric, the colour, the cut, the pretty little bonnet… Caterina looks like an illustration from a vintage children’s book, which I suppose is exactly what I wanted to achieve.
Even my husband (my husband!) loved them, so much that he is now planning to buy a few as presents for our nieces. They are that lovely.
Thank you, Lynda.

Carla, she looks gorgeous! And did you know that we just finished reading all 300+ pages of “Little House On The Prairie” over here?! Wait until Caterina is a little older (6 is a good age for it here). So much fun!
Thank you Leslie. I have been toying with the idea of reading the Little House on the Prairie with Nicco but I worry it may be a bit too girly….
