One of my favourite artists, Kari Ramstrom (aka Artsymama) has just published a book from her blog with Blurb. So far, so normal—plenty of bloggers have done the same. But her book looks fabulous, really professional and, what’s more astonishing, she put it together at record speed. She first announced her intention to publish the book on January 19. And hey presto! Less than two months later, it is done. Ah, the power of a focused mind.

And a focused mind is exactly what I lack, sadly. Still, her endeavour got me thinking. I have been wanting to publish my own essay book for quite a while now, but was always put off by the idea of having to write a lengthy proposal, pitch it to an agent, then to a publisher… then sit tight for months. But Blurb looks like a fun, easy way of doing it—something I could enjoy. And since I don’t have any Booker prize (or profit-making) ambitions, it could be just the way to do it.

Now, if only I weren’t such a natural-born procrastinator….
