  • Background experiments

    When time is tight but I still feel the need of a creative outlet, I make backgrounds. That’s because I can paint backgrounds even when the children are around, while anything more than that would be asking for trouble. Seems that time was particularly tight lately because I have been making a lot of backgrounds and very little of anything else. The upside, though, is that I have been experimenting with media and techniques. My favourite just now is sponged watercolours on gesso. I love the light, transparent quality of watercolours, and how it contrasts with the texture of gesso. here are a couple of examples:

    Watercolours and pastels are also fun, although I am not  as happy about this as with the previous ones:

    And of course, good old acrylics, used wet on wet, always work!
